Some of the steepest in-bounds resort ski slopes on the USA East Coast feature max pitches ranging from 35 to nearly 60 degrees, offering high-consequence terrain marked by narrow chutes, exposed boulders, and unforgiving ice sheets. A small list of the runs include:

Vermont
• Avalanche (Mad River Glen)
Hits a sustained 38-to-40-degree pitch on a classic, completely un-groomed fall line.

• Black Hole (Smugglers' Notch)
Recognized as the East's first triple-black diamond glade, featuring a 53-degree pitch packed with dense trees and tight turns.

• Black Magic (Magic Mountain)
Holds a sustained 40-to-50-degree pitch over narrow, rugged terrain featuring two major rock cliff bands.

• Face Chutes (Jay Peak)
Positioned directly underneath the aerial tram, providing a wide but highly exposed, wind-scoured 40-degree drop that requires a mandatory leap over a rock band.

• Freefall (Smugglers' Notch)
Features a terrifying 54-degree headwall that requires perfect technical precision right out of the gate.

• Goat (Stowe)
Part of the famous "Front Four," this trail reaches a 36-degree pitch but is exceptionally narrow, filled with massive boulders, exposed streams, and frozen waterfalls.

• Lower National (Stowe)
Another Front Four trail that features a sustained 38-degree pitch with a sharp, double fall line that pushes skiers toward the woods.

• Ovation (Killington)
Drops into a wide, massive wall of ice and moguls that hits a max pitch of roughly 35 to 40 degrees at its steepest lower section.

• Paradise (Mad River Glen)
Features a 38-degree pitch starting with a blind entry and a mandatory air drop over a frozen waterfall, twisting through dense trees.

• Rumble (Sugarbush)
Located in the expert-only Castlerock zone, hitting a 38-degree max pitch while measuring only two skis wide in certain sections as it wraps around rocks.

• Starr (Stowe)
Notorious for its 38-degree drop-off, which features a blind, sheer ledge that requires skiers to commit to a vertical drop immediately from the top.

• Upper Madonna Liftline (Smugglers' Notch)
Boasts a 50-plus degree pitch directly underneath the chairlift, requiring air drops over massive rock stairs.

New Hampshire
• Avalanche (Cannon Mountain)
Holds a reported max pitch of 59 degrees on its steepest sustained section, which rapidly develops into Volkswagen-sized, icy moguls.

• DJ's Tramline (Cannon Mountain)
An old, narrow service cut underneath the tramway that is rarely open, completely packed with high-consequence cliff drops and heavy brush.

• The Chute (Wildcat Mountain)
A narrow, historic trail that maintains a 35-to-38-degree pitch, dropping straight down a fall line with a direct view of Mount Washington.

Maine 
• White Nitro (Sugarloaf)
Reaches a 52-degree max pitch at its open upper headwall, making it one of the steepest consistently groomed face trails in the Northeast.

New York
• The Slides (Whiteface Mountain)
A collection of un-groomed, wilderness chutes that hit pitches up to 40 degrees. They are only open late in the season when snow cover is deep enough to bury the jagged rocks and frozen waterfalls beneath.

Pennsylvania 
• White Lightning (Montage Mountain)
Serves as the steepest slope in the Mid-Atlantic region, holding a sustained 30-degree pitch that frequently freezes into a sheet of uniform ice.
