X Games League

The X Games are making the move to a team style format in 2027!

Forget the X Games as you knew them. The organizers behind the X Games are changing the way the sport will be held. They are making a move to a TEAM format, similar to what has happened in golf with the LIV Golf League and TGL. While athletes still compete individually in a given sport, the performance will be awarded points that will be tallied up alongside the points of the other teams members.

What to Expect in 2027
• XGL Winter Launch: The first-ever team and club-based co-ed winter format kicks off, featuring foundational stars like Chloe Kim, Eileen Gu, and Mark McMorris.

• Aspen Return: Aspen Snowmass and X Games secured a multi-year extension keeping the flagship event at Buttermilk Mountain through 2029.

• Core Disciplines: Traditional action disciplines will anchor the competition, including SuperPipe, Slopestyle, Big Air, Knuckle Huck, and Snowmobile freestyle events.

What are your thoughts on the shift of the X Games to a team style event?

I have been following the X Games since their inception. Not sure how I feel about this change. Curious who they are cooking up to be the 'Team Owners'. Seems kind of against the snowboard culture if you ask me. I also really hope they don't bring in celebrities and other sports  stars just to throw their money around 'as an investment'. For example, I really DO NOT WANT to see either of the Kelce brothers be associated with the X Games or the Kardashians because they are associated with Aspen. Do you think they learned their lesson when they had on some of those social media influencers? That stoney-face dude, while funny in context, does not belong anywhere near an X Games microphone. I am there to watch snow sports and want to see and hear snow sports athletes, PERIOD! They really should add some additional events like boardercross, big mountain, maybe even a carving discipline.
